About the Mentor - Bipin Joshi

Bipin Joshi is a software consultant, an author and a yoga mentor. He embraced the path of classical Yoga more than 22 years ago and teaches kriya and meditation to selected individuals. His style of teaching presents an integrated and holistic approach to the subject and consists of energized mantras, pranayamas, mudras and meditations.

Although Bipin got introduced to yoga during his childhood, his real journey on the path of yoga and spirituality started when he miraculously came across Dnyaneshwari written by Saint Dnyaneshwara, a 13th century yogi of the Nath tradition. The poetic rendering of the Kundalini Yoga from Dnyaneshwari mesmerized him completely and he took to the practice of yoga as described in the ancient yoga texts. In due course of time he received intense Shaktipata and Swapna Diksha from his Ishtam followed by Kundalini awakening in the temple of Lord Shiva situated at Tryambakeshwara.

In addition to authoring 10+ programming books for international publishers such as WROX and Apress, Bipin has authored two books - Devachya Davya Hati and Nath Sanketinchaa Danshu - in Marathi elaborating his own experiences of spiritual awakening and the path of Kundalini Yoga.

Difference between Asanas and Mudras
Ancient texts on Kundalini Yoga describe various yoga practices such as Asana, Pranayama, Mudras, and Meditations. Note that in this context Mudras doesn't mean hand mudras. Mudras here means those that are specifically mentioned in Kundalini yoga literature. Beginners often get confused between Asanas and Mudras. A common confusion is this - Sarvangasana is considered as Asana whereas Viparitakarani is considered as a Mudra. From body posture point of view both look quite similar but still one is an Asana and the other is a Mudra. Even the other Mudras such as Maha Mudra and Maha Vedha are in a way physical postures. But they are called Mudras. Why so?

जीव आणि शिव
मुण्डक उपनिषदांत एक छान उदाहरण सांगितले आहे. एका फळाफुलांनी बहरलेल्या वृक्षावर दोन पक्षी बसले होते. एक मोठ्या आवडीने वृक्षाची आंबट-गोड फळे खाण्यात मग्न होता. दुसरा मात्र तटस्थ वृत्तीने शांत बसून होता. ते झाड म्हणजे संसार, आंबट-गोड फळे म्हणजे सुखदु:ख, फळे खाणारा पक्षी म्हणजे जीव आणि शांत बसलेला पक्षी म्हणजे शिव.
